Case Studies

SUMMIT™ must be installed on code approved roof decks, which are properly ventilated according to all applicable building codes.

The roof deck must be clean, solid, properly fastened and free of voids and or damage.

SUMMIT™ must be installed printed side up – unroll left to right.

Plastic cap fasteners must be used to secure SUMMIT™ properly. The plastic cap fasteners should be a minimum of 1"" in length and have caps of min. 1" in diameter.

The plastic cap fastener spacing should be at 12" oc. horizontally along the indicated fastener placement lines at the top and bottom, and at 24" oc. in the center lines printed on the sheet.

Top and bottom overlaps should be 4" minimum as indicated by the lay-up/fastener lines printed on the sheet.

Place the fasteners " in from the edges of the top and bottom laps.

End overlaps should be 12" minimum and fastened at 12" oc., vertically along the overlaps at 2" in from the end of the top layer.

The plastic cap fasteners should be driven tight to the surface of the SUMMIT™ without cutting into the sheet.

Repair all damage to SUMMIT™ before proceeding. For seams, joints or tears, repairs may be made using Atlas’ WRB peel and stick flashing tape or equivalent. Asphalt adhesives may also be used to seal joints, fl ashings and laps.

SUMMIT™ should be extended at least 12" past all hips and valleys.

SUMMIT™ installed on less than 4:12 slopes should be applied in a double coverage method. (overlapping each installed course by 24" rather than the normal 4")

Fastening can be through both layers.

Follow the ARMA (Asphalt Roof Manufacturing Assn.) recommendations for installing shingle underlayments and flashings for best roofi ng practices.

Cautions:

Always learn and observe safe roofi ng practices according to OSHA and local building code requirements. Always use caution when walking on sloped roof decks and SUMMIT underlayments. Do not walk on unsecured Summit or any other loose roofi ng material lying on sloped roof decks. Dust, dew, water, or debris creates unsafe conditions on the roof. The presence of any foreign matter may drastically change the coeffi cient of friction (traction) on SUMMIT or any other material on a sloped roof deck. Failure to always use proper safety equipment and footwear can result in serious injury or even death.
